Medicinal uses for Garlic
It used to
be that all communities had someone who was referred to as the natural healer
or midwife. This person studied plants and their use for healing. Medicinal
gardens were common place, and there were those who knew where the medicinal
plants grew around the community. One of these plants that has been around
since ancient times, is GARLIC. This segment is going to focus on the uses of
garlic. We touched on it very briefly last week (there are some recipes for using garlic medicinally) check it out here :http://remediesbyruth.blogspot.com/2014/11/welcome-to-ruths-remedies-welcome-to.html
but now, we are going to dive in and take a closer look at this wonder of the medicinal plant world. These are two links to the information that was shared in the segment on the LOV Chapters open call.

Garlic is
one of the most valuable foods on this planet. It has been used since Biblical
times and it mentioned in the literature of the ancient Hebrews, Greeks,
Babylonians, Romans, and Egyptians. The builders of the pyramids supposedly ate
garlic daily for endurance and strength. During World War I, soldiers would use
garlic as an antibiotic to prevent gangrene. This is because garlic has an
amino acid derivative, allin. This converts in the body to an antibiotic equal
in power to penicillin. Here is a quick summary for the wonders of Garlic:
- Lowers blood pressure
- Thins the blood
- Antibiotic
- Anti- Fungal
- Anti-inflammatory
- Detoxifies Colon
- Strengthens heart
Tips for using Garlic oil:[I included a list of recipes last
week, you can look them here]:make sure when you make the garlic oil, to remove
the peel, as it can contain mold and harmful bacteria. Garlic oil will keep for
a month in the refrigerator and can be used for sautéing, salad dressings, and
any other tasty ways that come to your
imagination.
ALTERNATIVE: Fresh garlic may be too strong for some to stomach, so
it is recommended to use Kyolic from Wakunaga of America. Kyolic is and
odorless, “sociable” garlic product, an is available in tablet, capsule, and
oil extract forms. https://www.google.com/#q=Kyolic+from+Wakunaga+of+America.&tbm=shop It can be purchased at this link if you would like to add garlic to your daily supplements.

I also recomend purchasing this book, Prescription for Nutritional Healing, 5th edition. It has 4 sections dedicated to the use of garlic and modern applications to drug free remedies using vitamins, minerals, herbs, and food supplements. https://draft.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=5243706433457033729#editor/target=post;postID=3024058427049805978;onPublishedMenu=allposts;onClosedMenu=allposts;postNum=0;src=postname
The biblical reference that we have for garlic is found in the book of Numbers. The Israelites moaned and said "We remember the fish which we used to eat free in Egypt, the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic, but now, our appetite is gone, there is nothing at all to look at except this manna" Numbers 11:5 We will be taking a closer look at the medicinal properties of each of these foods over the next few weeks. I look forward to meeting with you again!
