My most Treasured Resources (Before the days of "Google")

My journey in natural health started the day I was born. My mother did not know it, but every time she used a remedy her mother told her about, she was passing on the tradition of natural healing. Dry toast with tea when sick, vinegar bath when I had a sunburn, honey and lemon when I had a sore throat, and many other traditions were passed down. I am sure many of you have similar memories of the matriarchs of our homes lovingly passing down the ways of natural health by word of mouth. For this reason, the first on the list of most treasured resources is:

  1.  MY MOTHER. (Isn't she beautiful? :-) ) Even in this picture she is educating me on natural  health, she chose a healthy meal Maui Maui, red potatoes, and steamed veggies, and took half of it home "to go".
  2. The second treasure is the book Back to Eden by Jethro Kloss. He was also a minister, and he has many Biblical references all through he book. This is like the  natural health Bible. If you want to get someone well, and you have some motivation and fight to do it naturally, you will read this book. It has a great index. It covers everything from herbal remedies, healing foods, and water treatments and so much more.
  3. The third treasure in my list of resources is Prescription for Nutritional Healing, fifth edition. This book has been updated
so many times that this fifth ed. is copywrighted 2010. I had one before this that looked like this:
still the same good information though. It has charts and lists of what to do, It has name brands of capsules and tinctures ( and other suggestions as to what foods to eat for healing a specific condition). These items  can be purchased at any major whole foods or natural type store. So, you don't have to sit and boil bark to make it yourself, you can go to the store and get what you need. For many, this book is a practical life saver!
  4. The next treasure on the list is one that I practically have memorized It is a thin booklet Herbal Remedies for Children's Health by Rosemary Gladstar. The remedies that are safe for children, with the appropriate doses and directions as to what to do.
This book was the one I went to when I had a house full of babies. We RARELY (of course I am talking about with serious illnesses)  graced  the door of the Doctor's office due to the helpful instructions in this book. I am a firm believer in preventative medicine; being proactive from the start is a lot better than having to react to conditions that develop. Believe me when I say God gives mommies the discernment to know what is the right thing to do for their children. This is a great resource for "non-emergencies".
  5. The next book in my list of treasures is one that I referred to when I was pregnant, and after I was pregnant.  Herbal Healing for Women by Rosemary Gladstar. There are  helpful  tips in here for balancing hormones of teenage girls too, so I may need to crack it back open, now that we are in that phase of life with our young ones. It also has a chapter on menopause, which is another one of those things that most of us sort of dread, I plan to embrace it and age with grace, and with the tips provided in this treasure:
  6. Have you ever heard the phrase "take the meat and leave the bones"? That is what I do with this author, Rosemary Gladstar (She is the author of two of the above books)  She has a lot of knowledge about plants, and natural health but her philosophy on life is very questionable to the way of Christian life. That is why I am going to include my most important treasure as sixth, the reason I put it as sixth, is because to find the remedies, it is not as easy as going to an index in a natural health book and finding what I need, but God has directed the use of medicinal plants even in the BIBLE. The priests used Hyssop for purification, Jesus was given frankincense and myrrh, the list can go on and on. My point is that God made the plants, and even people in the Bible used natural health. The Bible is our lamp. God's word sheds light and truth in the dark places, and it shows me the right thing to do in each situation in my life.
Here's to your Natural Health!
